How do I deploy Start.me as the default homepage on my network?

IT admins can use Group Policy to set a team subdomain as the browser homepage across managed devices.

IT admins can configure Start.me as the default browser homepage on all managed devices in their organization. This ensures every employee or student lands on a shared Start.me page when they open their browser.

What you need

  1. A team subdomain (e.g. yourcompany.start.me). See Use a team subdomain if you haven’t set one up yet.

  2. Admin access to your organization’s device management tool (Active Directory, Google Admin Console, MDM, etc.).

Option 1: Install the Start.me browser extension

The simplest approach is to deploy the Start.me browser extension, which sets Start.me as the new tab page. You can force-install it across your organization via Group Policy or Google Admin Console:

To force-install extensions via Group Policy, see Set Chrome browser policies on managed PCs (the ExtensionInstallForcelist policy).

Option 2: Set the homepage via Group Policy

If you prefer to set the browser homepage URL directly, use the Group Policy settings below. Set the homepage URL to your team subdomain (e.g. https://yourcompany.start.me).

Google Chrome (Windows)

Policy: HomepageLocation under Administrative Templates > Google > Google Chrome.

Microsoft Edge (Windows)

Policy: HomepageLocation under Administrative Templates > Microsoft Edge > Startup, home page and new tab page.

Mozilla Firefox (Windows)

Policy: Homepage under Administrative Templates > Mozilla > Firefox > Home Page.

Option 3: Google Admin Console (Chromebooks)

For organizations managing Chromebooks or Chrome browsers via Google Workspace:

  1. Sign in to admin.google.com.

  2. Go to Devices > Chrome > Settings > User & browser settings.

  3. Select the organizational unit you want to configure.

  4. Under Startup, set Pages to Load on Startup to your subdomain URL.

  5. Under Home button, set the Homepage to the same URL.

  6. Click Save.

Tip

Combine this with SSO or email domain whitelisting so users are automatically signed in when they first visit your team subdomain.
