How to Hide the Search bar & Add more Search Engines

You can hide the search bar, and add & reorder your search engines when you have a PRO account. Here's how it works.

You can customize the Search bar to suit your workflow: hide it entirely (with a PRO or Team subscription), or add your favorite search engines. It’s a powerful way to explore the web and discover unique Start.me content.

Here's what you need to know.

Hide search bar with a PRO account

Instructions

  • Open the User menu by clicking the User icon in the top-right corner of your window.

  • Click User Preferences.

  • Locate the Hide search bar toggle (the sixth option), and toggle to ON. This change applies to all your pages.

Note

When you hide the search bar, the initial field focus will no longer be the Start.me search bar, but your browser's address field.

Hide search bar on a team domain

There are many options available to team owners team admins to control the appearance of their team pages. One of them, is to hide the default search bar for team Start.me pages on https://yourteam.start.me, so team members will not see the search bar.

Instructions

  • Open the User menu by clicking the User icon in the top-right corner of your window.

  • In the User menu, click My teams. Now you can select the team you own or that you have administrator rights for.

  • The Admin panel will open in the Account tab. Under the Subdomain section, you can locate the option Display settings. Click Edit.

  • Here, you can toggle Hide search bar. There are several other display options to adjust. Read all about it here.

  • We will save your settings immediatelijk, but it may take a few minutes before your changes are applied to the team pages.

Set default search engine & reorder search engines

By default, the search bar delivers a Google custom search experience with quick access to results from all Start.me pages. You can set a different default search engine, and reorder your search engines for quick access. These features are free for all.

Instructions

  • Click the Search engine icon in your search bar. Now you can select the search engine you prefer and start searching.

  • If you want to set a default search engine, click the option at the bottom: Search settings to open the Search engines sidebar.

  • In the dropdown field at the top, set the default search engine.

  • Reorder the search engines with drag and drop, or to delete the search engines you've added yourself.

  • Click outside the dialog to continue. We will save your choice automatically.

Add custom search engines

Instructions

  • Click the Search engine icon in your search bar.

  • Click Search settings and then the Add search engine button at the bottom.

  • Now you can select one of the preset search engines, by selecting one and clicking the +.

  • If your search engine isn’t listed, click Add custom search engine to add it manually.

  • Give your search engine a title and enter its URL. You can copy this from any search engine or website search feature—just replace the search term in the URL with %s.

  • Click Add to save and continue.
