Your notes are yours. With Start.me you can export the notes on your pages as Markdown files at any time, and import them again later. You can also import any plain Markdown (.md) file straight into a notes widget on a new page.
Export your notes
Instructions
Log in to your Start.me account and go to https://start.me/users/user_data/export. You can also click the User icon > Account details > Data > Exports.
Select the pages that contain the notes you want to export. The notes column shows how many notes each page holds.
Click the Export button in the top right corner and choose Export notes.
Start.me opens the My exports tab, where you can follow the progress. Click Download when your export is ready. You have 48 hours to download the file.
What's inside the export
The download is a ZIP archive with one folder per page. Each folder contains your notes as plain Markdown (.md) files, exactly as you wrote them, plus a small manifest file that stores the page layout. Because the format is plain Markdown, you can open your notes in any text editor or use them in other apps.
Import Notes
You can import two kinds of files:
A Start.me notes export (ZIP file), created on any Start.me account.
Any Markdown (.md) file, for example a note from another app or a README file.
Instructions
Click the Import button in the top right corner and choose Import notes.
Click Select file... and pick your ZIP or Markdown file.
Click the Import notes button.
Review the pages found in your file and confirm to start the import.
What you get
From a ZIP export: your notes widgets are recreated on new pages, using the original layout (column count, widget positions, and note order).
From a Markdown file: a new page named after the file, with one notes widget containing the full contents of the file. Markdown formatting like headings, lists, and links is rendered in the widget.
Good to know
Importing always creates new pages, so your existing pages are never changed. ZIP files can be up to 20 MB, Markdown files up to 1 MB.
