Install Start.me in Internet Explorer

Even though Microsoft Internet Explorer has been retired for a while now, it's still installed and used on many older systems. That's why we've included this support article in the list of supported browsers.

Open Start.me on startup

When you set Start.me as the default homepage for Internet Explorer, you can access your favorite bookmarks and widgets faster and more easily.

How to set it up:

  • Click the top right Tools button (the cog) or press Alt-X.

  • Click "Internet options".

  • In the General tab you'll find the option Home page. Type "https://start.me" in the address window.

  • Next, under "Startup" choose "Start with home page."

  • Click OK to complete, and you're done. Now your own personal startpage will load every time you open the Internet Explorer.

How to set it up:

  • Click the top right Tools button (the cog) again, or press Alt-X.

  • Click "Internet options".

  • In the General tab you'll find the option "Tabs". Click the button "Tabs" you'll find there.

  • Under "When a new tab is opened, open:" select "Your first home page."

Install our bookmarklet

To easily add sites to your Start.me page, you could also install a bookmarklet. First, make sure your Favorites bar is visible, by right-clicking the top of your browser window. Select "Favorites bar".

Next, drag and drop the following link to the Favorites bar of Internet Explorer.

There will be a warning about saving the bookmarklet, but you can ignore it. If you want more information about bookmarklets first, you can check our blog article about bookmarklets.

Whenever you come across a website you'd like to bookmark, click the button. There is no extension available for this browser.

Import your bookmarks

After you've set up your browser with Start.me it's time to import the bookmarks you'd like to transfer from other browsers. You'll only have to do this once. When you've stored it on your Start.me page you can access them from everywhere.

  1. Make sure you've exported your bookmarks in HTML format.

  2. Click the Add content button.

  3. In the Add content pane, scroll down, and locate the button 'Import bookmarks.'

  4. Click the Import bookmarks button and browse to the HTML file with your bookmarks.

  5. Click Import.

  6. Once the importing has finished, you will see a prompt 'Your import has been completed.'

  7. Click 'Close' to continue.
