Set Start.me as your new tab page

You can set up Google Chrome to open Start.me every time you open a new tab. As Chrome doesn't allow you to control this manually, you need to install our free New Tab by Start.me extension. Visit the Chrome Web Store, and click Add to Chrome > Add extension. Make sure to pin the extension to your address bar, for easy access.

Tip

You can use the New Tab extension to save websites, save & close multiple tabs, import bookmarks, and a lot more. If you don't want to set Start.me as your New Tab page, you can install the Bookmarker by Start.me extension. It offers the same functionality, without setting Start.me as your new tab page.

Enable 1-click saving of webpages

When you are visiting a webpage that you want to save to Start.me, you can use one of our browser extensions to save it with 1-click (without having to leave the webpage). You can also install our Bookmarklet.

You have three options:

  • Install the New Tab extension - this will also change your New Tab page to Start.me

  • Install the Bookmarker extension - this will NOT change your New Tab page to Start.me

  • Install the Bookmarklet - you'll need to enable your bookmark bar for this.

Warning

To enable 1-click saving, you only need to install one extension. Installing both extensions in the same browser can cause unexpected errors, so we don't recommend it. This limitation does not apply to the Bookmarklet.

Import bookmarks

After setting up your browser with Start.me, you can import bookmarks from other browsers. You only need to do this once. Once they're saved to your Start.me page, you can access them from any browser.

You have two options to import your Chrome bookmarks:

    • Click the Start.me logo in your browser.

    • Click the cog.

    • Click Import to start importing the bookmarks from your browser.

    • You might have to grant us additional rights to complete the operation.

    • After completion, you'll be taken to a new page, with all your imported bookmarks.

  • Import your bookmarks from an HTML File.

    • In the header, click the + icon.

    • Click Import Bookmarks > Select file > Import bookmarks.

    • Now you'll get a chance to select the folders you want to include in the import. Click Import to continue.

    • After completion, you'll be taken to a new page, with all your imported bookmarks.

Tip

After importing your bookmarks, you can reorganize your bookmarks by drag and drop, or move or even merge them to a different page.

Search bookmarks from your Chrome address bar

You can now search your Start.me bookmarks right from your browser address bar. Just type me and your search query in the address bar.

Example: Typing "me music" in the address bar will search across all your bookmarks (title and URL) for the word "music".

You need to have the latest version of our extension installed for this feature.
