By default, all your pages on start.me are private. Only you can access and edit them. If you want to share a page, there are several different options.
To see your options, click the Share button first.
Now you'll see the Share sidebar.
The Belongs to dropdown shows up if you are subscribed to at least one team. If you don't have a team, you will not see this option.
In the Who has access dropdown you'll find the following options:
- Private
Only you and invited people can access your page. - Team
All members of the team can view the page. If you don't have a team, you will not see this option. - Protected Link (PRO-Feature)
Only people with the link address and the password can view this page. - Open Link
Only people with the link address can view this page. - Public Link
Anyone on the internet can view the page. Furthermore, Google and other search engines will find and index your page.

1. Share a page privately [back to top]
Even though a page is private by default, you can still share it with anyone you trust.
So, let's imagine you've made a Marketing dashboard, you want to show to a client, so they can give you feedback. The page isn't ready for publication or sharing with a team yet.
Instructions:
- Click the Share button, in the header of your page.
- Make sure the page still belongs to your personal pages.
- In the next option Who can access this page, select the option Private.
- In the option People, you can invite someone by email. You decide if they can only view your page, or edit it as well (PRO feature).
- Click the X in the top right corner to leave the Share dialogue.
You can always change the view or edit privileges later.
People you invite need a (free) start.me account to see your page. The page will show up in their list of personal pages, as followed (). If they want to remove the page from their personal pages, they can click the heart again, to unfollow.
2. Share with an Open link (free) [back to top]
Instructions:
- Go to the page you want to share.
- Click the Share button in the header. Now you see the Share pane.
- In the second drop box option Who can access this page, select the second option: Open link.
- You'll see the address of the page. There are two buttons.
- With the first one, you can copy the link to your page, and paste it later into your text.
- The second one is the Connection button. With it, you can embed your page, share it socially (we support Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn, or send it by email.

- Click the X in the top right corner to leave the Share dialogue.
Now the Share button will read Shared.
Note: if you share a page as an Open link, visitors don't need a start.me account to see the page. If they want to save the page for later reference, they can bookmark it, or create a free start.me account. After registering to start.me, the shared page will appear under 'Personal pages.'
Note: if you follow a page by clicking the heart icon, your username will show up in the Share sidebar of the page owner. If you prefer to stay private, you can duplicate the page and add it to your personal pages.
3. Share with a Protected link (PRO) [back to top]
Instructions:
- Click the Share button in the header.
- Select the page you want to share.
- Select Protected link in the Who can access this page dropdown.
- Enter a password of at least four characters. There are no other requirements. Click Save to continue or Cancel to abort. If you don't set a password, the page will be still be protected and not accessible by anyone but you or the people you invite.
- After setting your password, click the Copy link button to copy the page address.
You can paste it into your mail client to share it. - Click outside the sidebar or click the X in the top right corner to continue.
You can always change this setting later or remove the invitation altogether.
4. Share with a team [back to top]
If you want to profit from the many advanced sharing features start.me has to offer, we recommend trying out our team plan.
With it, you can replace your current intranet or extranet solution, provide a customized homepage to your employees, students, or colleagues, and share your most important online and local files with more security and ease.
5. Share with the world [back to top]
If you want to, you can make your pages available and searchable for anyone online, including search engines.
Instructions:
- Go to the page you want to share with the world.
- Click the Share button in the header. Now you see the Share pane.
- In the second drop box option Who can access this page, select the third option: Public.
- Click the X in the top right corner to leave the Share dialogue.
Now the Share button will read Shared.
Once you've publicized a page and used the Shareable link option, anyone can visit your page, but when they do so with a start.me account, they will see a 'Follow' button.
When they press this button, this dialogue will appear:
You can Duplicate the page and start editing, or Follow the page as is. If you follow the page, it will show up in the list of Personal pages.
You can always remove the page from your personal pages later, by clicking the Unfollow button in the header.
Note: if you decide to follow a page, the page owner will see your username in the Share sidebar.
