Automatically Assign Users to Enterprise Teams via SSO

Use SSO group attributes to automatically place members into the right Enterprise teams.

With Single Sign-On (SSO), you can automatically assign users to the correct Enterprise teams based on their group memberships.

Example Scenario

John Doe (john@doe.com) is part of the Marketing and Sales departments in your company. In your Identity Provider (IdP) (such as Azure AD or another SSO provider), he is assigned to the internal Marketing and Sales groups.

With SSO group mapping, when John signs into Start.me Enterprise, he is automatically added to the corresponding Marketing Team and Sales Team on Start.me — without any manual setup. This ensures that users are always placed in the right teams based on their existing group memberships in your IdP.

Follow these steps to enable this automation:

Step 1: Include a "groups" attribute in your SAML response

Ensure the SAML response includes a "groups" attribute indicating user group membership.

Step 2: Map groups to Enterprise teams

Go to the Authentication & SSO tab in your Start.me Enterprise settings. Select Groups Mapping from the three-dot menu next to your Identity Provider (IdP).

Here, you can define how Group IDs map to your Enterprise Teams.

Note

The Group ID you enter on Start.me must exactly match the value your IdP sends in the "groups" attribute of the SAML response. Groups mapping is available for Start.me Enterprise.
